In a nutshell: This report suggests efforts to prevent deaths in children must focus on improving the quality of care for children with chronic conditions and their families.

Some key findings:

  1. Overall child mortality has declined by more than 50% in last 30 years
  2. Injuries are the single biggest cause of children deaths
  3. Young maternal age remains risk factor throughout childhood
  4. Two thirds of children who die have a chronic condition
